10 QUESTIONS WITH...

Sydney dao

20th April 2018

Sydney Dao of Squid Inc. public relations and consulting firm has become a fashion icon in Houston, TX. She was recently featured in Houstonia while pregnant with her second child. The focus was how to dress when you’re pregnant, and she has been featured for her unique style, and work numerous times. Remember, the second season of project runway? Chloe Dao was the winner. Yes, that is Sydney’s sister, but Sydney doesn’t live under any shadows. She has made a face and name for herself within the fashion industry in many ways. As of March 19th, 2018, she became the mother of her second daughter. She now has two amazing little girls, London and Frankie.

1. How did you get started in your field?

I do more than only fashion now, but right out of college in New York I started out at a P/R firm and fashion showroom.  She did what all first timers do going into those firms and showrooms alongside working with Chloe towards their fashion industry goals, and more.

2. What are your top 3 tips for balancing work life and motherhood?

First thing, you must find yourself a good partner, and supporter. Second, although it is not always balanced with being your most productive times, you need to work late night. That’s the most guilt free time to work. Third, always make time for yourself.

3. How do you get motivated?

I get motivated most by seeing people succeed. My job is to help individuals succeed, and that motivates me more than anything.

Positive affirmations, meditation is always great to start the day, and something as simple as just getting dressed, look good for yourself.

4. How do you define success?

For me personally my success is based on others success professionally, and personally. It’s in how we help others and encourage their growth.

5. What's your favourite fashion staple?

Right now, (she giggles) it is my fitted little black dress. I’ve worn it through maternity and had it for 15 years. It is my favourite thing in my wardrobe.

6. What is your favourite mantra?

After a while of thinking she sweetly stated: I don’t know if I have just one. I have so many, and everything has been so zen through pregnancy. I would say, do not take life too seriously, along with watch out for anger. I don’t get angry often because it takes more energy to be angry than it does to love. I try to always share and spread positivity. You can’t control others. Be content with yourself.

7. What food have you never eaten and would love to try?

Oh man! We laughed because she could not think of anything. I do not know, I eat a lot of weird things.

8. Do you have any tips to kickstart a positive morning?

Positive affirmations, meditation is always great to start the day, and something as simple as just getting dressed, look good for yourself.

9. If you didn't work in your field, where would you be now?

I would most likely be working with a non-profit organization, or volunteering.

10. Who has been your biggest supporter?

Cody Hastings, my husband and the father of my children. He has supported me through every late night, week long trips back to back, and more. He is my backbone.
